May 31, 2017: Sweden’s only submarine builder, SAAB, revealed in May that it had developed a variant of its new A26 diesel-electric submarine with an additional 10 meter, 500 ton section that contained three vertical cylinders containing each containing six VLS (Vertical Launch System) tubes for carrying Tomahawk cruise missiles. SAAB Kockums offer three versions of the A26 or Oceanic as it is called now. It's the largest version Oceanic ER that can be fitted with a module for cruise missiles. The smallest version Pelagic doesn't have the large diameter lock in the bow but can still be offered with Stirling AIP. Approximate displacements and dimensions are: On 27 February 2014 the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) cancelled its plans for ordering the A26 submarine from Kockums. According to FMV the new Kockums owner, the German company Thyssen Krupp has refused to allow Sweden to share the cost with any other nation, making the submarine too expensive.
